Forest Watch

Our mission is to expose the effects of unsustainable industrial forestry and provide organizations, decision-makers and the public with essential evidence to stimulate actions that bring about the protection and restoration of forests and watersheds. Our geographical reach is primarily the Cumberland Plateau and mountains of Tennessee. We respond to logging complaints and requests for training beyond our area as resources allow.

Our goals:

  • Monitor, create and provide original documentation and research to support organizations conducting market, public policy and endangered forest work to protect Southern forests;
  • Collaborate with groups and institutions to halt industrial clearcutting and conversion of natural forests on the Cumberland Plateau; our operational home base;
  • Outreach, train and provide tools to help engage groups in documenting destructive forest practices;
  • Strengthen a cooperative network of ForestWatch organizations in the Southeast (VA, NC, AL, MO, and TN).
